Before you inspect
Ask the seller for the VIN and registration details, and check them against a paid title and write-off search. Ask for logbooks.
At the inspection
Inspect in daylight, at the seller's home or business address, and take somebody with you. Check the VIN on the car matches the paperwork.
Warning signs
A seller who will not meet in person, who wants a deposit before you inspect, who asks for gift cards or crypto, or whose price is far below the market, is very likely a scam. Report the listing.
